"I had been putting off dealing with my pension documents for two years. The Pension Basics course gave me a working understanding of how the system fits together — nothing I couldn't handle once someone laid it out clearly. The glossary is still on my desk."

"The records session was more useful than I expected. We spent about three hours going through everything, and by the end I had a system I could actually explain to my daughter if she ever needs to find something. The bilingual labels were a thoughtful touch."

"Our community club arranged a session through Vesterly and it went very well. People asked a lot of questions — about their state pension, about paperwork from two countries — and the presenter handled everything honestly, including saying clearly when something was outside their scope."

"What I appreciated most was that nobody tried to sell me anything beyond what I asked about. I did the course, I had a question a fortnight later, and someone answered it by email without fuss. That's the kind of service that's quite hard to find."

"I found the course a little more introductory than I needed for the first two modules, but from module three onwards it covered things I hadn't clearly understood before. The Question Planner turned out to be the most immediately practical part — I used it before my next call to the relevant office back home."

"My husband and I did the records session together. We have papers going back twenty years from three countries and it had become quite a pile. The template they left us with is clear and we've already used it to add new documents that arrived last month."

How Different People Have Found Things Useful
The Situation
A retired teacher from the UK, living in Phuket for four years, was receiving pension correspondence from two different bodies and was unclear how the two related to each other or what action, if any, was expected of her.
What Helped
She enrolled in the Pension Basics course. The section on document types and communication formats gave her a framework for understanding what each letter represented. She used the Question Planner before contacting the relevant body.
The Outcome
She felt able to engage with her correspondence without anxiety and reported feeling significantly more in control of her paperwork within three weeks of starting the course. Timeline: approximately four weeks.
"I didn't need someone to manage things for me — I just needed to understand what I was looking at."
The Situation
A couple from Australia — one partner still working part-time, one retired — had accumulated a shared box of mixed documents with no clear system, including items they could no longer identify the purpose of.
What Helped
A Records Tidy-Up session at our Phuket office. The session took around two and a half hours. We sorted into categories, created bilingual labels, and left them with a filing template adjusted to their specific document types and the countries involved.
The Outcome
Within a single session, they had a functioning system both partners understood. They identified three documents that had been missed but were important to retain. Their adult son, visiting from Sydney, was also shown the system before he left.
"It was a relief to hand that afternoon over and come out with something sorted."
The Situation
A retirement housing development near Phuket town had several residents asking similar questions about pension correspondence and documentation. The management asked whether a group session could be arranged.
What Helped
A Community Information Programme session held in the development's meeting room. Twenty-two residents attended. Each received a printed resource pack and the session included extended Q&A time given the level of interest.
The Outcome
Residents reported feeling better informed about where to find official information. Four subsequently enrolled in the Pension Basics course. The development arranged a follow-up session six months later.
"Several residents said it was one of the most practically useful sessions we had arranged in years."
